An Urgent Biblical Warning for Believers Who are Still in Addiction

Addiction is a powerful stronghold that enslaves countless lives. The stakes are higher than mere earthly suffering. The Bible makes it clear that unrepentant sin will separate a person from God’s kingdom, which includes the sin of ongoing addiction. This truth is not widely preached today, for fear it will insult people. I’m not afraid to insult you because I love you too much for that. If I tell you that your ongoing addiction will land you in Hell, then I’m doing what God wants me to do… I’m speaking His TRUTH. As followers of Jesus Christ, we must face the full counsel of God’s Word, so when the moment comes that we understand this TRUTH, we need to begin making changes and turn back to God.
Addiction and Sin
Addiction is not a disease, we know that’s a lie now. That was just an old-school ‘theory’ with no concrete proof behind it. Addiction is a sinful stronghold given by Satan, that ensnares individuals and keeps them in bondage. The idea that addiction is merely a disease is a worldly theory that contradicts Scripture by removing personal accountability and ignoring the spiritual battle involved. Jesus said:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.” (John 8:34)
Drugs, alcohol, and other addictive substances lure people into a state of spiritual slavery, where the body’s cravings become the master instead of the Holy Spirit. Simply put, it becomes The Bible warns us that those who are led by the flesh cannot inherit the kingdom of God:
“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery (Greek: pharmakeia), enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21)
The word pharmakeia, translated as sorcery, refers to the use of drugs, potions, or mind-altering substances considered witchcraft in seeking altered states of consciousness. God’s Word directly connects this practice to those who will not inherit eternal life.
Addiction Is a Spiritual Issue
The theory that addiction is a disease fails to address its true spiritual nature. While physical dependence can develop, addiction is ultimately a result of sinful choices and deception from the enemy. Satan uses substances to keep people in bondage, cloud their minds, and separate them from God’s will and from eternity in Heaven. The enemy’s goal is always to enslave and destroy:
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
A person bound in addiction is not sober or watchful — they are vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks and deception.
Willful Sin and Losing Salvation
Some believers falsely claim that once you are saved, you are always saved — no matter how you live. But the Bible warns against continuing in willful sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth:
“For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.” (Hebrews 10:26-27)
True salvation produces repentance… a turning away from sin, not a license to continue in it.
God’s Grace and Freedom from Addiction
The good news is that no addiction is greater than the power of God’s grace. Jesus came to set the captives free:
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
Victory over addiction is a given: however, it requires full surrender to Christ. Jesus’ blood and grace empower us to walk in holiness, not to make excuses for ongoing sin.
A Call to Repentance
If you are struggling with addiction today, do not harden your heart. The Bible says:
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
There is hope for a complete and total healing for life, but only if you repent and allow God to transform your life. No matter how many times you have fallen, God’s mercy is waiting for those who truly turn away from sin and seek Him.
Final Warning
Jesus is returning soon, and the Bible warns us to be ready:
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers (pharmakeia) and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” Revelation 22:14-15)
Do not let addiction keep you outside the gates of heaven. Today is the day of salvation.
Are You Ready to Be Free?
If you are caught in addiction, God is calling you to repentance and freedom. Cry out to Him, confess your sin, and ask Jesus to break every chain. Freedom is not only possible … it is required for those who want to enter God’s kingdom.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Choose life. Choose freedom. Choose Christ — before it’s too late.
