Discovering God’s Biblical Name Will Free You

In your journey of recovery, knowing who God truly is can be a powerful source of strength and hope for you. The Bible reveals that God’s name is Yahweh, not ‘God’. God describes His ‘title’ but not His name. Yahweh is His name and He is the eternal “I AM.” But His name is is not just any name. Yahweh reflects the very essence of His character. When God describes Himself as merciful, gracious, patient, and compassionate, He offers reassurance to those seeking freedom and restoration. Let’s explore how understanding Yahweh’s nature can transform your life and recovery.
Hebrews 11:6. reads: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
When Moses asked God to show him His glory, God responded by proclaiming His name in Exodus 34:6-7: “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion, and sin.” Yahweh’s name reveals not only who He is but also what He does. He longs to bring healing and redemption to those who call upon Him.
Yahweh is a God of mercy, meeting us in our brokenness and sinfulness. Mercy and grace mean that God does not give us the punishment we deserve. For those struggling with addiction, this is a profound epiphany. No matter how far you have fallen, Yahweh’s mercy reaches you. He sees your pain and offers healing rather than condemnation once You come to Him.
Grace is God’s unmerited favor. That means that no one deserves it but God gives it to us because of the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. His gift is love and redemption even when we don’t deserve it. Recovery is not about earning God’s approval; it’s about receiving His grace and eternal salvation through His Son, Jesus. Through Yahweh’s grace and mercy, you are given the opportunity to start fresh, free from the guilt and shame of the past. Isn’t that spectacular?
Yahweh is slow to anger. His patience is a source of comfort for all of you who have faced the ravages of the 12-step programs who said you would suffer setbacks and relapses. God does not give up on you, even when you stumble. His longsuffering nature means He walks with you, waiting for you to return to Him with open arms. Once you do, He will HEAL you completely and your past addiction will be dust in the wind!
God’s compassion, described as steadfast love (hesed in Hebrew), is a deep commitment to His people. Compassion is not a feeling, it’s an action driven by unconditional love. Yahweh’s compassion restores what you have lost to addiction. He binds up the wounds and fills the voids left by sin. Psalm 147:3 states, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds”.
When you truly understand Yahweh’s mercy, grace, patience, and compassion, it changes you from the inside out. Gratitude replaces guilt, humility takes the place of pride, and hope shines through despair. Knowing that God loves you so deeply and unconditionally inspires you to extend that same grace to yourself and others as you heal. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Take a moment to reflect on your own recovery journey. Can you see moments when Yahweh’s mercy shielded you from harm? Have you experienced His grace giving you strength to move forward? Think about how His patience has kept the door open for restoration. These reflections can help you trust Him more deeply as you continue your path to freedom. I would recommend that you journal the answers to these questions so that you can reflect on this later.
Recovery requires surrender—letting go of control and trusting Yahweh with your life. When you surrender, you invite Him to bring healing and transformation. Trust in His name, which stands as a promise of love, forgiveness, and restoration. He is Yahweh, the compassionate and gracious God who is always with you. James 4:7 states, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
No matter how dark your past may be, Yahweh’s name assures you of love, forgiveness, and a path forward in total freedom once you trust and believe in Jesus (Yeshua). His mercy covers your mistakes, His grace empowers you to change, His patience guides you through setbacks, and His compassion restores what has been broken. Turn to Him, trust in His Son Jesus and His unchanging nature. Discover or rediscover the hope and healing that only Yahweh can provide.
Have a blessed rest of your day and weekend with a new bounce in your step as you walk through your recovery. Hope to see you next post. Bye for now.
