How to Find Out Where Your Mission Field Is

Matthew 9:37-38
“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”

Where Is Your Mission Field?

let’s talk about something deep for a minute.
You know you’re saved. You love the Lord. You’re in the final lap of your addiction recovery. Now you want to serve Him… but maybe you’re stuck wondering, “What exactly am I supposed to be doing? Where is my place? What’s my mission field?”

Let me tell you—you do have one. God didn’t pull you out of darkness, heal you, and propel you into His marvelous light just to let you sit still. He has a purpose for you that is deeply personal, perfectly fitted, and right on time.

But how do you find it?

It starts with this simple truth:
Your mission field is wherever God has given you a burden.
That burden could be for addicts, for single moms, for broken marriages, to serve in the soup kitchen, to minister to the sick, the incarcerated, the youth, the elderly, your neighborhood, your workplace, or your own home. Where do your eyes tear up? What keeps you awake at night? What breaks your heart—and makes you say, “Somebody has to do something about this”?

That “somebody” might just be you.

Scriptures to Reflect On:

📖 Isaiah 6:8
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’”

📖 Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

📖 Ephesians 2:10
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Goal for Today:

Start praying specifically: “Lord, show me my harvest field.” Don’t rush it. Ask Him to reveal where your experiences, your story, and your compassion align with the needs around you. And stay alert—it might not look “big” or glamorous. Sometimes your greatest mission field is just one person.

Prayer:

Abba Father, I know You’ve called me to more than just surviving. You’ve placed a unique calling on my life that You feel I can only do, and I don’t want to miss it. Please open my eyes to see where You are already working and how I can join You there. I give You my yes, even before I know the full picture. Send me, Lord. Use me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Introspective Questions:

  1. What group of people do I feel a deep compassion for?
  2. What part of my story could help someone else find freedom in Christ?
  3. Have I been ignoring the obvious opportunities around me to serve?
  4. Where do I sense God nudging me to step out in faith?
  5. Am I willing to be used in a way that doesn’t look like I expected?
  6. Who is in early recovery that I can mentor?
  7. Do I have a passion to train for something I’ve never done before?

Thought:

You don’t have to go overseas to be a missionary. Sometimes, the greatest mission fields are hidden in plain sight—at your kitchen table, on your street corner, at your fellowship, or in your past. Start there. That’s where your impact begins.
