When The Enemy Attacks

I’m speaking directly to YOU. I feel you because I know how it feels when the enemy’s got you pinned down. Maybe it’s that familiar whisper telling you you’ll never break free from addiction, or the sudden wave of guilt crashing over you like a tidal wave when you thought you were finally standing strong in recovery. When the enemy attacks, it’s personal, relentless, and can even be downright exhausting; however, here’s the truth I need you to connect with: you’re not defenseless or powerless. God’s got your back, and He’s armed you for this fight. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” This isn’t just your struggle… it’s a spiritual battle, and the enemy hates that you’re choosing to recover from his most powerful tool he has brought to humanity – drugs, alcohol, and other addictions. Choose faith! Choose life! Choose Jesus! You’re not going down, because God’s given you everything you need to be FREE and stand firm.
First, recognize the attack for what it is. The enemy’s a liar, and always has been. John 8:44 says, “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” That voice saying you’re too weak, too broken, too far gone… it’s not from God It’s a cheap shot from the pit of Hell. Call it out. Say it out loud if you have to: “That’s a lie.” Then replace it with God’s truth. Speak it out loud. When the enemy hisses that you’ll fail again, hit back with 1 John 4:4, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” Write that verse down, stick it on your mirrors and fridge, keep saying it until it sinks in. You’ve got the Greater One living inside you, and the enemy doesn’t stand a chance against that power.
Next, suit up immediately… right now. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” This isn’t some lofty idea; it’s practical. Strap on the belt of truth by reminding yourself who God says you are redeemed, loved, and chosen. Shield yourself with faith by trusting God’s promises, even and especially when you can’t feel them. And wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Start quoting Psalm 91:4, “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.” When the enemy swings, you swing back with Scripture, just as Jesus did in the wilderness with Satan. Keep it simple: pick one verse today, memorize it, and say it every time the attack hits. God’s Word isn’t just ink on a page… it’s alive and breathes, and it’ll cut through and destroy the lies of the enemy like a blade.
Finally, don’t fight alone. The enemy loves isolation… he wants you locked in your head, thinking no one gets it. But James 5:16 says, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Call a solid believing friend, contact your recovery coach, lean on your faith community. Tell them, “The enemy’s hitting me hard, pray for me.” There’s power in that vulnerability, and the enemy hates it. You’re not weak for needing help; you’re actually being strong and wise for knowing the battle may need an army of prayer warriors. God put people around you for a reason… if you trust them, use them. Even if you have no one, or memorize nothing else, make sure you put to memory the verse below which is from 1 John 4:4 . . .
🙏“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world”
Listen, when the enemy attacks, he’s not just after your sobriety… he’s after your soul, your hope, your purpose for which God prepared for you. Satan is after your soul! Remember that you’re not his punching bag or puppet; you’re a warrior with God’s supernatural strength and supernatural power going through you. Stand up today. Speak the Word. Speak truth. Armor up. Call for backup. The enemy’s loud, but God’s louder. 2 Corinthians 10:4 promises, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” You’ve got those weapons, and they work 100%. Use them, and watch the enemy run.
Have a blessed rest of your day, knowing that your weapons for warfare are not carnal but Mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. Rely on Jesus Christ.
