When You Don’t Know Which Way

God’s direction is clear for those who trust His heart more than their own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

Crossroads can be terrifying. One step in the wrong direction can lead to heartbreak, wasted years, or spiritual dryness. But the good news is: you don’t have to figure it all out.

The Lord doesn’t leave you guessing. He promises to direct your paths if you surrender your own logic, your own comfort, and your own timing.

At a crossroads, don’t chase signs. Seek His face. Don’t look for ease – look for obedience.

The Lord often guides not by giving you all the answers, but by giving you peace, conviction, and clarity through His Word. When you choose God’s way at the fork in the road, even if it costs you something now, it always leads to something eternal.

Key Scriptures (NKJV):

  1. Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”
👉 God’s guidance is personal, watchful, and active.
  2. Isaiah 30:21
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.”
👉 God’s voice often comes as confirmation at the moment of decision.
  3. Jeremiah 6:16
“Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls.'”
👉 The way forward is found in biblical truth—not new ideas.
  4. James 1:5–6
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God… But let him ask in faith, with no doubting…”
👉 Wisdom at the crossroads is a prayer away; however, it requires trust, not double-mindedness.
  5. Psalm 25:4–5
“Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me…”
👉 A heart that wants God’s way more than its own will never be led astray.

Discussion & Introspective Questions

  1. What major crossroads or decisions are you facing right now?
  2. How are you currently seeking God’s guidance—through prayer, Word, or counsel?
  3. Have you ever reflected back and realized you ignored God’s direction at a past crossroads?
  4. What would it look like to fully “acknowledge Him” in your current situation?

Prayer

Abba Father,
You see what I cannot see. You know where each road leads. I ask for Your wisdom, understanding, and guidance. Help me to let go of my own expectations and preferences. Lead me by Your Holy Spirit, not my fear. I surrender this crossroads to You, and I ask You to direct my steps with clarity, peace, and conviction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Goal for Today

Identify one area where you are unsure of what to do. Pause, pray James 1:5 aloud, and ask God for wisdom before making another move.

Journaling Prompts

  • What is the decision before you? Write it out.
  • What emotions are influencing your thinking—fear, guilt, pressure, excitement?
  • Write a letter to God surrendering the outcome, and ask Him to speak clearly.

Be blessed knowing how secure you really are in which way to go when you trust Jesus!
